Napa Wine Train

GOURMET EXPRESS LUNCH + GRAPE STOMP AT A WINERY

A trip on the Napa Valley Wine Train is a return to the bygone era of gracious rail travel. Your scenic journey through the heart of Napa Valley takes place via a vintage railcar. Built entirely out of steel in 1915 by the Pullman Standard Company and used as first- class coaches for Northern Pacific Railway’s première trains. After acquiring them in 1987, the Wine Train undertook an extensive project to restore them to their former glory, lavishly appointing the interiors with Honduran mahogany paneling, brass accents, etched glass partitions, and velveteen fabric armchairs. You’ll feast on beautiful scenery while enjoying a delicious four-course meal, and for the highlight of the trip, you will take part in a quintessential harvest season experience at an acclaimed winery that put Napa on the map. The stomping of the grapes at Grgich Hills Estate immerses you in the wine-making process, using an age-old maceration method. A festive tasting awaits after the stomp, where you’ll enjoy a selection of organic reserve wines from Grgich Hills.

The fact that it’s a fully guided tour makes it even better—having someone to provide historical insights and share knowledge about the area while you’re out on the water adds an educational aspect to the experience. Castelli di Amorosa

TOUR THE CASTLE + WINE TASTE + GIFT SHOP

The most unique destination west of Tuscany, Castello di Amorosa is a spectacular architectural achievement that harkens back to the time of the lords and ladies. Fourteen years in the making, this winery is the brain-child of Dario Sattui, who also owns V. Sattui Winery. The 100+ rooms (including a dungeon!) were built from stones, bricks, lighting, and other elements that were carefully removed from existing structures, shipped to Napa and re-assembled by Italian stonesmiths, aided by a local crew. The beautiful frescoes telling the story of love and betrayal were painted by an artist brought over from Italy just for that purpose. Today you’ll tour the nooks and crannies of this amazing place, and perhaps discover some of its secrets!
